Message from Superintendent

Greetings to Pine-Richland Students, Parents & Community:

I hope that everyone is enjoying the summer vacation. We are excited for the start of the 2015 - 2016 school year. When the calendar turns to August, we begin to see many of our students return for band camp, fall sports, and other activities.

In addition to hiring and scheduling, our summer work projects are progressing well. Each of the primary buildings in the district is being re-cabled with an additional focus on enhancing the wireless network. New back-end equipment is also necessary to ensure reliability of technology devices. As these first steps are completed, a new phone system will be installed at all three primary buildings and Eden Hall that will tie the whole district together. The replacement of the track surface at the high school stadium is scheduled for the next few weeks. The stadium is unavailable during this installation. Many other small projects are also being completed.

We are excited about the progress of our strategic planning process. Approximately 70 members of our school community participated in the first set of Town Hall meetings. Small group discussions at those meetings were evaluated in combination with the electronic survey data from parents, staff, and community members. Please consider joining us for the second set of Town Hall meetings in the high school cafeteria on August 13th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. or August 17th from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The format and content of those sessions will be the same. Two dates/times are offered to provide flexibility for participants.

At the first Town Hall meetings, we discussed the categories of the strategic plan and initial set of long-term goals within each category. Those categories include:

  • Teaching and Learning
  • Student Services and Programs
  • Finance and Operations
  • Workforce Development
  • Communication and Stakeholder Development

In the next meeting, we will share revisions to the long-term goals in each area and go into greater depth on the short-term action plans that will be used to reach those goals. Implementation is a major focus of the plan design. The input and collaboration thus far has been excellent. We look forward to additional discussion. This next session will also allow the opportunity to revisit the mission, vision, and beliefs that guide the district. More information is available at the following link.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer.

Respectfully,
Brian Miller
