Board Appoints Director

The Pine-Richland School Board is welcoming a new school director. The board appointed Dr. Matthew Mehalik to the Pine-Richland School Board for Region 3 on Monday, January 8, 2018.  Dr. Mehalik joins the board with a wealth of experience. 
 
He currently serves as Executive Director of the Breath Project/Collaborative, which works to promote clean air and inspire healthy communities across southwestern Pennsylvania. Prior, he worked at Sustainable Pittsburgh as a program director.
 
Dr. Mehalik also serves as an adjunct assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University Heinz College, where he has created and teaches two courses entitled Environmental Policy & Planning and Sustainable Community Development. In addition, he completed postdoctoral work in Learning Science in Education at the University of Pittsburgh.
 
He holds several degrees including a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering with concentrations in Business Management, Ethics and Social Studies of Innovation and Technology; a Master of Science in Systems Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia.
 
Dr. Mehalik and his wife Deborah have an elementary aged child and live in Richland Township.
 
Dr. Mehalik joins the board, which consists of President Peter Lyons, Vice President Christine Misback, Treasurer Marc Casciani and directors: Dr. Benjamin Campbell, Mr. Greg DiTullio, Mrs. Virginia Goebel, Dr. Carla Meyer, and Mr. Matthew Moye.
 
The board announced a position vacancy due to the passing of Mr. Robert Pavlecic, who was scheduled to serve that seat. His passing is a great loss for the district and community.

Upcoming Board Meetings
Please note that the Pine-Richland School Board planning, regular and combined meetings will be held at 7 p.m. in 2018 unless otherwise noted. This change starts on January 15, 2017 at the combined planning and regular meeting, which is also designated board appreciation night. 
 
Prior to the board meeting, there is an Academic Achievement Committee Meeting at 6 p.m. to discuss the 2018-2019 Program of Studies.
