Wrestlers Earn Team & Individual Honors
PRHS Varsity Wrestling Team Earns 7th & Top Individual Awards
The Pine-Richland Varsity Wrestling team earned seventh place out of 28 teams at the Chartiers-Houston Wrestling Tournament on December 4-5, 2015. Wrestling Booster President John Baxter said this was quite an accomplishment, because the team was missing several starters. In the individual category, top finishers included PRHS juniors Hunter Baxter and Garrett Burnham both taking first place and junior and Alex Salas taking second place. Click here to read more about the team. Two youth wrestlers have been selected to represent Team PA Wrestling.
Youth Wrestlers Represent State at Duals
Sixth grader Kelin Laffey and seventh grader Cole Spencer traveled to the Virginia Challenging Wrestling (VACW) Duals in Virginia Beach on December 10-13, 2015. The VACW Duals is a USA Wrestling sanctioned event and is considered the number one event of its kind on the East coast. The competition includes 48 teams from 23 states.
Cole went 9-1 in the middle school division and Kelin went 7-3 in the elementary division. The duo will represent Team PA in Iowa in April.
The boys will represent Team PA at Iowa in April.
“This is a great honor for Kelin to represent his state, his school, and his family,” said Mrs. Tracey Laffey, Kelin’s mother. “He will be competing on a team comprised of wrestlers from all over the state of Pennsylvania.
Team PA Wrestling is committed to provide opportunities for Pennsylvania’s best youth wrestlers to compete against the best youth wrestlers from other states in grade-based and age-based National Youth Wrestling Dual events throughout the country. The goal is to provide an educational experience to help these young athletes in all facets of their lives including academics, athletics, social and family according to Team PA Wrestling President Karl Zachman.
