WPIALS

PRHS Varsity Baseball

The Pine-Richland High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team defeated Gateway in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs. They lost 5-1 in the second round against Canon McMillan on May 19, 2016. Congratulations to the coaches and players.

PRHS Girls Varsity Lacrosse

The PRHS Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team finished their regular season 17-1. Coach Brittany Pikur says the team earned the section championship title, the first time since 2012.  The team participated in the WPIAL playoffs on May 19, 2016 at against Peters Township at Pine-Richland High School Stadium. The the girls beat Peters Township 14-9 against Peters Township  in the first round. The team lost to Chartiers Valley  on May 24, 2106 at Mars High School in overtime in the WPIAL Semi-Finals. They will play in the WPIAL COnsolation Round as they take on Quaker Valley at Peters Township on May 26, 2016 at 6 p.m. The winner will go on to the PIAAs.  The boys lacrosse game against Shady Side Academy will take place at 7:30 p.m. (Read Below).

PRHS Boys Lacrosse

The PRHS Boys Varsity Lacrosse team earned the title of Division 1, Section 2 Co-Champions (shared title with Shadyside Academy) for the 2016 season.  The team ended the regular season at 13-4, with a section record of 5-1.  This is the first time this title has been earned in the team's history.  The team beat Upper St. Clair 16-3 in round one of teh WPIAL Playoffs. They  were defeated by Mt. Lebanon on May 23, 2016 16-10 in the WPIAL Semi-Finals. They will play Shady Side Academy Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at Peters Twp. High School in the consolation round and the winner will go on to the PIAAs.

PRHS Boys Volleyball 
 
The PRHS Boys Volleyball team won the first round of the WPIAL Playoffs on May 17, 2016. They will play North Allegheny High School on May 19, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at North Allegheny at 7:30 p.m. for the quarter finals.

Track & Field
The Varsity & JV Track & Field Team participated in the WPIAL Championships at Baldwin High School on Thursday, May 19, 2016. Coach Bill Crummy says that:

  • The Girls 4 x 100 relay team of Jodie Berezo, Megan Briski, Gabby Krieger, Karly Krisby won the WPIAL Championship with a school record time of 48.94.
  • The Girl’s 4 x 400 relay team of Megan Briski, Gabby Krieger, Karly Krisby , Kylie Manuppelli placed 7th with a school record time of 4:00.97
  • Tessa Franchi placed 6th in the 3200 meter run with a school record time of 11:17.46.  Tessa narrowly missed the state qualifying standard.
  • Kylie Manuppelli also placed 7th in the 400 Meter Dash with a school record time of 59.17
  • Joey Kelly place 2nd in the Pole Vault with a jump of 14’ 6”.  His brother David placed 3rd with a jump of 14’ 0”.  They both have qualified for the PIAA Championship Meet.
  • Rusty Bateykefer placed 7th in 1600 meter run in the WPIALs 
The following students will head to the PIAAs at Shippensburg University on May 28, 2016.

To participate in the WPIALs, the team qualified for five total relays out of six possible relays. Three Individual Pole Vaulters - including Joey & David Kelly - both previous medalists and high seeds qualified for the WPIALs along with three Individuals in the Hurdles - including senior Kylie Manuppelli in three events. Junior Tanner Douglas qualified in three events (100, B 4 x 100 Relay, Long Jump). Congrats to all the WPIAL qualifiers, which included:

CHAMPIONSHIPS 

PR Crew

The Pine-Richland Crew Team Men's JV 4+ won the Gold Medal at the Dillon Sprints Invitational on April 16, 2016, which is held at Dillon Lake in Nashport, Ohio (just outside of Zanesville, Ohio). The team was made up of  rowers Chris Oberst, Max Katich, Eli Egyed (coxswain), Gavin O'Connor and Troy Rowlands.  The team is coached by Sam DiMarzio. 
 
The PR Crew will participate in the Stotesbury Championships on May 20-21, 2016.
 
Girls Golf
 
Pine-Richland High School ninth grader Lauren Freyvogel won the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour (PKBGT) hosted the Boar's Head Inn Classic at the University of Virginia last April 2-3, 2016.  She had a one shot victory to win with scores of 77-76.   Details...
