April Message to Community

Greetings to Parents, Students, and the PRSD Community,

We are deeply saddened by the loss of a student in the past couple weeks. It is a challenge to recover from loss and know that this tragedy can raise many emotions, questions, and concerns. Members of our community are looking for strategies and opportunities to discuss this area.

We know the importance of developing a safe and supportive environment in our schools. Part of an effective school environment is the understanding that our students have diverse needs. With 4,600 students in the district, we have a responsibility to respond to those diverse needs whether they are academic, social, physical, or behavioral. This responsibility includes an ongoing and collaborative partnership between the school staff, families, students, and possibly other area resources.

We want to reinforce the availability of our pupil services teams at each building. At school, the relationship with every child begins in the classroom. However, we also have school counselors, psychologists, principals, and other professionals available to support the learning process. We know that sometimes parents can be hesitant to talk with school staff. Whether via phone or face-to-face, we want to invite those conversations. We can provide access to a variety of resources within and outside the school.

Please look for announcements about future meetings and/or evening presentations on this topic. We are also talking with leaders from churches and outside groups. We look forward to sharing some of the strategies currently in place at Pine-Richland and also engaging in conversation about other opportunities.

Thank you again for your support and engagement in the Pine-Richland School District.
