Students Earn Honors in Music Programs

Pine-Richland High School Chamber Singers performed at the Heinz Chapel Chamber Choir Festival hosted by the University of Pittsburgh on February 21, 2016.  Choral Director Lee Rickard said the event is an annual invitation event held in Heinz Chapel with this year being the 26th year.   Bethel Park High School and Dallastown High School (York) also participated, as well as the Heinz Chapel Choir.  Dr. Susan Medley and Dr. Mark Boyle served as adjudicators for the event, providing written comments and feedback to the ensembles. PRHS Chambers singers included  Brian Berthold,  Alexa Chavara, Sean Colosimo, Allyson DeMarco, Samantha Dzielski, Emily Eirkson, Madison Engle,Morgan Engle,  John Folmer, Olivia Folmer, Ben Frazier, Sophia Hudock, Nathan Kelly, Taylor Krebs, Colleen Lowe, Kristin Martin, Carley McCaffrey, Michael McNamara, Meredith O'Neil, Jake Pedersen, Gabriel Schoone, Daniel Trombola, Alena Zappa and Jacob Zentner.

Four Pine-Richland High School students were selected for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Regional Choir to be hosted at Western Beaver High School March 16-18, 2016. They include senior Madison Engle, juniors Samantha Dzielski and Jake Pedersen and sophomore Sophia Hudock. Choral Director Lee Rickard says those students along with junior Brian Berthold were also selected to participate in the PMEA District 1 Chorus Festival choir festival at Penn Hills High School February 3-4, 2016.

Pine-Richland will be hosting the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Junior High Orchestra Festival April 22-23, 2016 at Pine-Richland High School.  PRMS Orchestra Teacher Katelyn Piroth says several students were selected to participate and include ninth grader Christopher Mustovic; eighth graders Enyonam Akwayena, Aranya Krishnan, Kristen Vigna, Samuel Mahsoob; and seventh graders Caroline Dawson and Gabrielle Stone. 

 

> Seven band members auditioned and were selected to perform with the PMEA Honors Band on November 22, 2015 at Bethel Park High School.  Seniors Aidan Lakshman (trumpet) and Will Newell (French horn); juniors Alex Kampas (French horn), Sarah Dawson (trumpet), Andrew Gaffey (tenor sax), Elliott Boudreau (percussion), and sophomore Troy Rowlands (tuba).

 

> Senior Aidan Lakshman (trumpet) and junior Jake Zak (trumpet) auditioned into the PMEA District One Honors Jazz program this year and performed at Duquesne University on December 19, 2015. 

 

> Thirty PRHS band members and nine PRMS band members auditioned and were selected for the Allegheny Valley Honors Band at Hampton High School on January 22, 2016. (See table to right.)

 
Junior French hornist, Alex Kampas participated in the PMEA District One Orchestra at Upper St. Clair HS on January 9, 2016.  Alex’s first chair placement allows him to move onto PMEA Regional Orchestra in State College on Feb. 25-27, 2016.
 
 
 Seniors Aidan Lakshman (trumpet) and Will Newell (French horn); juniors Andrew Gaffey (tenor sax), Alex Kampas (French horn);  and sophomore Troy Rowlands (tuba)  participated in the PMEA District Band at South Fayette High School on January 29, 2016.  Aidan, Andrew, Will and Troy qualified for Region Band at Valley HS, March 9-11, 2016. 
 
 
Senior Aidan Lakshman (trumpet) auditioned and has been selected for PMEA All-State Jazz Band in Hershey, March 30-April 2, 2016.  Aidan is the only PRHS musician to be chosen for this group since 1997.
 

 > The PRHS Marching Band will perform in the New York City Tartan Day Parade on Saturday, April 9, 2016.  The parade will proceed up 6th Ave, also known as Avenue of the Americas.

 

 > The PRHS Jazz Ensemble will perform at Carnegie Hall in Oakland with the CMU and WVU Jazz Ensembles on April 21st.  It is a great honor to be invited to this event.

 

The PRHS Marching Band has been invited to once again perform the National Anthem at a Pittsburgh Pirate game on August 22, 2016.
