Students Take Cultural Adventure

Students have been studying world languages at Eden Hall Upper Elementary School. For the past month, they focused on Carnaval in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

“Our students learned about Carnaval and how it is celebrated, then they were tasked with forming a samba school, choosing a theme, and building a float out of a shoebox to compete in a samba parade of their own,” said Teacher Sarah Burkot. “Our students rose to the occasion! Their levels of enthusiasm and dedication to this project was unexpected and truly amazing.”

The grand finale for this project was the mini samba parade/float judging contest held the week of May 2, 2016. All students had the opportunity to samba dance around the room with their floats and show off their hard work. All floats were then put on display and students voted on the best one.

“This project was such a huge success and so popular with our students, and something from our new curriculum this year,” said Ms. Burkot.

Mrs. Mary Ann Sanders’ students also participated, so the project was enjoyed by all.
