District Introduces Cloud Computing

Information on Integration of Cloud Computing
Dear Pine-Richland High School Parent or Guardian:

Pine-Richland School District (PRSD) is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to integrate "cloud" computing into our high school.  Cloud computing is simply sharing software applications over a network; a cost saving, collaborative alternative to installing stand-alone software on individual machines.  Click here for a brief podcast describing this initiative.

One of the district's long-term goals in our 2016-2019 Strategic Plan is to integrate technology tools into courses and activities where they can extend or improve the teaching and learning process.  Google apps is one component of this long-term goal.  Google Apps for Education provides our students and teachers with a platform to communicate and collaborate in a safe, online environment using email, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet tools.  Pine-Richland's Google account is a closed domain limiting the interaction to PRSD students, employees, and approved educational partners.  Through this initiative, students will engage  in activities designed to help them discover the opportunities and responsibilities that coincide with online learning.  The school district has developed a list of Frequently Asked Questions for our parents and community to reference including an option for families to opt out.  Student orientations will be begin in April with our current 11th grade students.  Our 9th and 10th grade students will receive their orientations prior to the end of the school year. The purchasing of individual computers or other devices will not be required or necessary.
Pine-Richland School District's Google Apps accounts are only to be used for school related tasks.  The students will receive an orientation presentation through the high school librarian to review the requirements and opportunities associated with these educational applications.  In order to use Google's services as provided to PRSD, all participants must be aware of, agree to, and adhere to the following:

Students will be able to log in to their Pine-Richland Google account from any computer with internet access via the website google.com.  Each child will receive a unique username and password to gain access to his/her files and resources.  Only Google products that have academic value have been activated for your child's use.  Additional information specific to Google Apps for Education can be viewed at https://www.google.com/edu/.

Pine-Richland School District is committed to integrating current educational technology and assisting you in preparing your child for post high school experiences. Granting students' access to Google Apps for Education aligns with this commitment, and encourages students to think critically and collaborate in a safe, online learning environment.
