Graduate Shares Spotlight with Students

Newsies Picture with Calhoun Pine-Richland students traveled to Atlanta, Ga the weekend of Jan. 13-14 for the 2017 Junior Theater Festival and received a sneak peek of Disney's "Newsies" and a chance to talk to the director, who is a Richland High School graduate.
The students are members of the Jeter Backyard Theater Team. At the festival was the premiere of the live capture performance film of "Newsies," which is not set to be released to the public until February of 2017.
Director Jeff Calhoun and Choreographer Christopher Gattelli hosted the premiere event and watched the completed film for the first time with the participants in the festival. Tony award nominee and actor, choreographer, director, Jeff Calhoun, who is a 1978 Richland High School graduate, spoke to the students about his experiences and how the students should follow their dreams. 
Jeff Calhoun gave a shout out to Jeter Backyard Theater and his fellow Pine-Richland students. After the film Jeff met with the students for a photo opportunity. Showing the students that it is possible to come from a small town and reach the top. Jeff told the audience that he was active in both football and theater while attending Richland High School and went on to pursue a career in theater.
"It was an exciting time for all the students involved," said parent Robin Tino.

Students Willow Cribbs, Giuliana DeRenzo, GIna Giordano and Sophia Giordano and Ava Grande attended the festival in Georgia but do not appear in the picture.
