Update: Students Named Finalists in Scholar Program


The National Merit Scholarship Corporation named three Pine-Richland High School students as finalists in its 2017 program. They include seniors:National Merit
  • Richard Kwon
  • Joshua Pantanowitz
  • Kendall Pomerleau
These seniors, along with 16,000 other students, were  notified that they qualified for semifinalist status out of 50,000 top scorers this fall and most recently as finalists on February 6, 2017. They have the opportunity to qualify for finalist status and earn scholarship money.
In addition, program administrators named 12 seniors as commended. They include seniors:

  • Andrew Gaffey
  • Adam Heeter
  • Amanda Labuda
  • JohnMichel
  • Alec Muchnok
  • Joseph Mullen

About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition. 
High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
