Pine-Richland Middle School students are “bonding” with molecular concepts through the use of atom model called – Happy Atoms.

The Happy Atoms were purchased through a grant that PRHS Teacher Kantz was able to secure through the help of PPG Employee Carol Bateman, who is a parent in the Pine-Richland School District.

Students in the eighth grade science  class were able to learn more about chemical bonding and key concepts.

“We are using phone and taking different pictures,” said eighth grader Stella Lapinski. “ We are combining atoms to make different molecules.”

The students were able to manipulate the atom models to pair them with other atom models to create molecules. They also used an app to scan and identify the molecules that they built.

“Everything is easier to understand,” said eighth grader AJ Lachimia. “I understand concepts better when I can visualize them.”

The lesson was extra special, because the lesson took place on Take Your Child to Work Day. Not only did Mr. Kantz’ child Dominic get to participate in the lesson, so did the grandchildren of Nurse Karen Halliday.
