Sophomore Wins Tri-State Jr. PGA Championship
Pine-Richland High School Sophomore Lauren Freyvogel won the Tri-State Jr. PGA Championship at Fox Run Golf Course on June 10, 2017. She shot 75-68 for a one under 143 total in the 36 hole event. Check out the leader board from the championship on June 10, 2017 and the Trib article on June 25, 2017.
She will now return to compete in the national Jr. PGA Championship at the Lewis and Clark Course in Missouri July 18-21. The event is one of the top two junior golf tournaments in the country.
Lauren verbally committed to play for the University of Virginia in May. She plans to red shirt her first year and earn a master’s degree in her five years there. Her mom Cathy Freyvogel said Lauren chose UVA over other full scholarship offers, due to the academics and the quality of the golf program.
"She loves the coaches," said Mrs. Freyvogel. "Lauren is looking forward to playing in the ACC. UVA won back-to-back ACC championships in 2015 and 2016."
